We have a GO for EVAC!

It's official, we are evacuting for Gustav. All the spouses and kiddos in the squadron are headed to Birmingham, AL. Jason will be flying one of the planes to Scott AFB. We leave at 0545 for many hours of fun driving. Not much more on my mind to say because this is a first for me on hurricanes. My house isn't even unpacked from our move and now we are evacuting, CRAZINESS!
Wish us luck and keep everybody on the coast in your prayers!

From Blizzards to Hurricanes

I thought I would never be saying this, but can I move back to ND? HA! This weekend we are suppose to evacuate due to Hurricane Gustav heading our way. Yes, I said evacuate, never had to do that in ND. In fact, we were told the exact opposite; stay home a blizzard is coming. I only shoveled snow for months on end in the north and now we get to evacuate from hurricances down here in the south. I don't know which is worse, but right now I'm going with evacuating not being so much fun. It's projected to hit late Monday/early Tuesday as a CAT 3, for those of you not up to speed on hurricance categories, Hurricane Katrina was a CAT 3. So, I'm off to pack bags. It's a very unsettling feeling knowing what you are packing might be all you have for a while if the storm hits.

The Circus came to town!

We finally got to go see the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus. We wanted to go while we were in TX, but we weren't able to squeeze it in our plans. A few weeks later they came to MS, woohoo! First order of business was picking out their lights. We had front row seats; Ethan and Rachel loved it.

CREEPY!

I was born and raised in TX with all kinds of insects around. Well, I haven't lived in the south for a while; I got use to no bugs at all in North Dakota. This is by far the creepiest spider I have ever seen. They spin these massive webs between trees. If you are not paying attention it is very easy to walk right into the web, which I did the first time I walked into my backyard, AAAHHHHH! It's one of those moments if a hidden camera was on me it would've been pretty hilarious. I must say though if you thought there was a chance this spider was on you I think anybody would be doing the funky dance trying to get it off. Apparently the spiders are harmless and keep the other bug population down. I will keep my distance just in case. This picture was taken with serious zoom set on the camera. The spider is about the size of the palm of your hand, TX size! If you look closely at the picture you will notice he is missing a leg, hopefully there isn't a bigger spider picking on him.

New chapter for Ethan...KINDERGARDEN!

Well, the first day of kindergarden finally arrived and it was a long day for Ethan. The bus picked him up at 0600, yes, that's not a typo, and he didn't get home until 3:15. This is the only picture I was able to sneak in. Ethan wanted no part of pictures being taken and I didn't want to add any undo pressure, so I snuck this one in when he got off the bus. So, after two weeks of 0545 wakeups, I decided to drive him to school. It only gives him 30 minutes extra, but that seems to be making a big difference in his energy level.
